It’s so important that you really understand the 4 phases of a good maternity leave because you need to know what is ahead so you can actually prepare in the right way. If you don’t prepare, you’re going to be screwed, because you'll have a newborn and be stressed out and hustling in your business. No one wants that. Right? So, you deserve to have a maternity leave and it’s important that you know what you need to plan for.

There are 4 phases:

1 - Pregnancy

This is the entirety of the time, you’re pregnant so you need to have a plan in place. This is the time where you implement your strategy,  you train your team, you train your clients, you set expectations, and you have a really clear map of what you’re going to do so you can enjoy your mat-leave.

2 - Mat-Leave

This is when you’re actually off from work. This is when your plan kicks into gear and you’re able to be with your baby, be with yourself and have your business thrive.

3 - Slow Return

This is when you go back to work, when you start to step back into your business. This phase is about flexibility so that you can change. You might decide that you want to extend your maternity leave or you may decide you want to come back. We need to make sure that you’re going back into work slowly so that you’re working at a pace that works for you so you still have energy for yourself and, your baby but also for your future self because you don’t know what she’s going to want. She might have a whole new desire so you need flexibility in place for that slow return when you start going back to work.

4 - New Normal

How you run your business now is different than what you’re going to want when you return back to work as a mother. Whether you’ll be a new mother, or you’ll just have a family with more children, it’s going to be different. We want to plan for the future you. We need to make sure that you plan that in advance so that you are taking care of yourself. This means not overworking and having the right structures and boundaries in place so that you can actually feel supported in your work, and in your home.
